In the capital of classical music, the Portuguese trio at Vienna’s Fashion Week gave a remarkable fashion “concert”.
Integrated in a Portugal Fashion’s initiative, Daniela Barros, Estelita Mendonça and Meam by Ricardo Preto were national representatives in the Austrian catwalk, and they did not disappoint.
Daniela Barros, one of the young talent’s already confirmed, whose creations are sought from Canada to Japan, showed Atha, a collection «inspired by egos, in the subconscious, in what we really are without any kind of barrier or filter», explains the designer. «It also has a more geometric part, inspired by tectatris, which evokes a more geometric and rigid side», she adds. Shapes were marked by fluid fabrics, harder materials, and knitted, coloured by the usual black and white, but also by ice-gray, which was reflected in prints that turned the collection lighter. «It was a great experience», says Daniela Barros.
Estelita Mendonça, another young talent, also seems to have conquered the Austrians with “Identity” collection, filled with men’s proposals in 100% cotton fabrics, PVC and other technological materials. «It’s based on concepts such as the multiplicity of “subjects”, the feeling of belonging, the idea of uniformity, anonymity, the original and the copy», says the young designer, who recreated uniform’s pre-concept. «The presence in Vienna was very important, it is the beginning of internationalization», states Estelita Mendonça. «It was very gratifying and I think Vienna warmly upheld our work», he adds.
In turn, Meam by Ricardo Preto presented “A” silhouettes and geometric cuts, as well as coordinated items created based on the concept “Between”, the pursuit of the aesthetic balance between the past and the future. «We were contacted by the local and national press and in a promotional sense, it was a success», Ricardo Preto considers. Furthermore, «propose a collection in a new country always brings new influences’ perspectives, whether aesthetic or market ones», concludes the designer.
