Whether there is a particular decade or a trip to a special place, designers are fascinated with the beauty of the past and the spirit of the present, recreating it with colour next fall season.
«This is a season of untypical colours – more reflective of the imagination and ingenuity, which makes for an artful collection of colors and combinations not bound by the usual hues for fall», says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, which had analysed the colours that will mark the next cold season.
«There is a feminine mystique that is reflected throughout the palette, inspired by the increasing need for women everywhere to create an individual imprint», adds Eiseman in relation to women’s clothing colours.
Distant places and retro ambiences inspired designers with colours like Sangria, «an exotic red that evokes a sense of glamorous adventures and faraway destinations», and a sophisticated Red Dawn, two colours that assume leadership. The Mauve Mist, by his side, «reminds art deco era»’, while Green Cypress «has a towering presence».
Prejudice does not exist for men’s clothing, with colours being increasingly unisex. Therefore, the Radiant Orchid purple (colour of the year 2014) and Bright Cobalt blue «will be this quintessential statement colours this season», Pantone points out, prevalent in everything from sportswear to shoes. The «complex silvery shade» Aluminium will also be popular for staples like outerwear and formalwear.
For more than 20 years, Pantone has surveyed the designers of New York Fashion Week to bring the season’s most important colour trends in women and menswear.
