Having won the award in 2002, Felipe Oliveira Baptista is now the president of the jury of the prestigious Festival d’Hyères, which takes place at the end of the month.
For the Portuguese designer, returning to Hyères is, undoubtedly, one of the highlights of his career. «The Festival d’Hyères was important, for me symbolized the beginning. Returning to the festival this year – and I am the first former winner presiding the jury – is symbolically also important”, he considers.
Nevertheless, this is not the only new project for Felipe Oliveira Baptista in 2013. «I am also preparing an exhibition in Lisbon, in Mude, for late October, which coincides with the 10th anniversary of the brand» », he announces. However, he points out, “is not so much a retrospective, but certainly people will speak about the brand’s 10 years”.
Created in 2003, Felipe Oliveira Baptista brand is directed to a woman that «looks for something special, singular, and also quality, but at the same time, something that she can use and does not use her”, he describes. Now, the brand is sold all over the world, not only in Europe, in countries like France, England, Spain, Italy, but also in Asia, USA and the Middle East.
Curiously, Portugal stays out of this map, at least directly. «I have consumers here and nowadays I think that a quarter of our customers have online service, so those barriers are now more easily surmountable.”. However, he confesses, «it saddens me», though he believes it is «a matter of time».
Along with his own collection for autumn-winter 2013/2014, which had «a very good reaction worldwide», Felipe Oliveira Baptista is still, since 2010, Lacoste’s creative director, in which he has been adding fans season after season. «The response to the last collection was great, the criticisms were unanimous and the sales of the line presented in New York went up 100% over last year, which is very good», he reveals.
As for his future in the brand «it is a contract job. I am now coming to the end of the first contract and we are thinking at the second phase», he concludes.
