A traditional tale was the starting point for next season’s collection by the Storytailors, who continue to enchant with their Portuguese and foreign creations.
“Estrela de Oiro” (Golden Star) is based on the tale “The girl with the golden star on her forehead”, which, a hundred years ago, was told in the Baixo Alentejo, in Serra do Caldeirão. It was from this story that the duo Luis Sanchez and João Branco designed the collection for autumn-winter 2012/2013, marked by flowy fabrics and helmets.
«It is a beginning, the first chapter of a new story», say the designers, who highlight «the transformable and versatile coat-dresses under the influence of the lines of Aviator suits».
In terms of cuts, silhouettes, details and colour palette, the line – a work by the Storytailors Atelier -, also gives rise to the ready-to-wear collection ‘Storytrailors Narkë’, which will soon be in the designers’ shop in Bairro Alto. In fact, unlike other seasons, the Storytailors collections are now concentrated in this space. «We started experiencing the difficulties of multi-brand stores, which are going through a very complicated stage», explains João Branco.
However, the author brand is increasingly sought after by international clients «of various nationalities» – as the designers boast -, especially in the area of ready-to-wear, and the Portuguese are mainly looking for careful atelier work, where corsets are the hallmark.
Currently, besides their fashion lines, Luis Sanchez and João Branco have been working in the development of costumes and in the field of uniform creation, and have, in parallel, created a blog dedicated to fashion, at the invitation of the newspaper Público. «It is another way to communicate and reach consumers», concluded Luis Sanchez.
