In London’s Embassy of Portugal, Luís Buchinho and João Melo Costa proved that Portuguese fashion’s talent crosses generations.
In Belgrave Square’s emblematic building, Luís Buchinho long-lasted summer with his Resort 2014 collection, with colourful proposals and a «free spirit». Graphical elements, like coloured and printed blocks, came to life in shades of green, black, white and ice-gray in both day and cocktail dresses, as well as in tank tops.
A «pragmatic and versatile, ideal for city life» collection, considers the designer, who claims to have had good reviews. «The feedback was excellent», says Luís Buchinho. «London is a city that has a strong buzz around fashion and as such, is a market with great receptivity to new brands», he adds.
In his turn, João Melo Costa presented “Welcome Back”, a collection that «presents a visual narrative about someone who once was lost», he explains. Different materials and textures including wrinkled linen, cotton twill, stamped organza, knit and denim with applications, comprise a «welcome and honour celebration», with strong colours such as red and orange, and fireworks’ inspired prints. «In the last coordinated items is created a space to reflect on the past and on new possibilities for the future», says the 23 years old designer.
And the future, at least for João Melo Costa, looks brighter, judging by the reaction to this first fashion show in London. «The collection was very well received, with bloggers and international media enthusiastically commenting the fashion show, allowing me to establish a few interesting contacts after the show», he reveals. «There are new doors opening. Above all, I think that the requirement of international market will evolve further more my work and reinforce brand’s aesthetics», he concludes.
